The Compass Works approach
Built to investigate the result, not just calculate it
Compass Works has built its own assessment tool using CRREM's published methodology and datasets. It was designed specifically for consultancy work, with the information needed to investigate the result kept visible throughout the assessment.
Data coverage, boundary decisions, assumptions, mixed use treatment, onsite renewables and retrofit sensitivities can all be examined alongside the final pathways and Misalignment Years. This helps us understand why a signal appears, how much confidence to place in it and what should be investigated next.
The calculation may be mathematically deterministic, but the professional interpretation is not. We treat misalignment as an indicator for further investigation, rather than an automatic conclusion about asset value or technical viability.
Because the tool is already built, we can focus the engagement on the client's assets and decisions. We do not need to construct a new model for every assessment or treat a platform result as self explanatory.
